Goofing around.

Playing with Instagram / My new FB profile pic. Ya… I know I’m very slow.

The birthday present/ Playing with some ‘filter’ thingy I downloaded. This is some black/white thingy. I KNOW, I’m very slow. Anyway this was before the bag was officially inducted, paper still around the straps! But the bag has since been used on my birthday to hide the birthday present I got him ironically. Using a white bag is very stressful. I had to take extra great care not to dirty it :(

Did you hear? / Miss Universe ’11 (the winner la!) Leila Lopes wearing ClubCouture/ Yup, ST got her name wrong. Not me.

Feel like getting them for Korea, cute right!

:(

When I saw a cashier hand this little boy his money back, the boy couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The cashier said, “I’m sorry, but you don’t have enough money to buy this doll.” The little boy turned to the old woman next to him, ”Granny, are you sure I don’t have enough money?” She replied, ”You know that you don’t have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.” Then she asked him to stay there for just 5 minutes while she went to look around. She left quickly.

The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. “It’s the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas. She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.” I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus would bring it to her after all, and not to worry. But he replied to me sadly. “No, Santa Claus can’t bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.” His eyes were so sad while saying this, “My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.” My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said, “I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.” Then he showed me a very nice photo of himself. He was laughing. He then told me ‘I want mommy to take my picture with her so she won’t forget me.’ ‘I love my mommy and I wish she didn’t have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.’ Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.

I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. ‘Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll!” OK’ he said, ‘I hope I do have enough.’ I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said, ‘Thank you God for giving me enough money!’ Then he looked at me and added, ‘I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give it to my sister. He heard me!” ‘I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn’t dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.” ‘My mommy loves white roses.’

A few minutes later, the old lady returned and I left with my basket. I finished my shopping in a totally different state of mind from when I started. I couldn’t get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy?

Two days after this encounter with the little boy I read in the newspaper that the young woman had passed away. I couldn’t stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine, and in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

Playing with Instagram while he’s driving and I happily showed the boy the picture cause the bracelet’s a gift from him and he replied, “Baby, I think you should show your fingers. Your hand looks a bit fat like that.” FML

But Siew says fat hands = will have money next time. I wonder when is the ‘next time’ cause I’ve been waiting for it!

And yes, my fat hand’s resting on his birthday present to me. Super love! I think the best presents are surprises actually. My most impressionable present from my Daddy was given to me when I was 5. I remember him waking me up on Christmas and telling me and my sister to search for our presents.. and boy, did we tear our house down in excitement – I got my first Barbie and my sister got Skipper, Barbie’s sister if you didn’t already know.  Quite the best Christmas ever :)

And the boy gave me an amazing surprise too!  No, he didn’t already know about the Christmas story and fast forward 20 years, I came back super grumpy at 11pm (you’d be too if you spent your entire birthday weekend working like shit) and found a name card sorta thing inside fatbear’s shirt with many words but two were particularly striking  to me – “Chanel” and “Gift”. I looked at the boy and he told me to “Go find your present.. it’s somewhere in this room.” And yes, I squealed, screamed, jumped as I searched every corner in the room. And as much as I hate to be drama-mama, I ended up tearing when I finally got my hands on it :/

In other news, we decided on Seoul! He hates Korean food tbh cause there’s just too much veg and I’m actually not too keen on the sub zero temperatures. I hate cold weather! But we’re still doing 2 nights in Shanghai so it’s not too bad I guess. And 2 nights at a ski resort. The boy thinks it’s going to be quite a joy watching me ski fall zzzz

out and away.

I’ve been posting a lot of travel related stuff cause 1) I’m dying for a getaway and 2) I think we’ll have to re-plan our year end holiday all over again.

It’s kinda exasperating actually and how ironic things can be – a holiday’s supposed to be distressing but gosh, all the trauma and stress amassed from the planning is really insane. We happily decided on Tokyo & Shanghai a month ago and with the hotels & flights all settled, we have to find out that the radiation shit in Japan is REALLY bad atm. But with all the media blackout and honestly, I think the world is a lot more focused on Greece & US than Fukushima. So now, we don’t know if we are going and I don’t know if I should proceed Plan B (not much time left!).  Meh

I heart getaways.

Finally got down to uploading the pictures from our getaway that happened 2 months ago.

Lebua didn’t disappoint – what you see in pictures was exactly what we got.

And yes, stock pictures like these weren’t lying at all.

We booked a river view suite and were pleasantly upgraded to a high floor room. The river view was okay.. I much preferred the amazing city lights.

I love hotel rooms. Plush pillows, thick comforters and clean, white sheets! Spent the night watching The Tourist & The Tooth Fairy.

Oh and Bvlgari toiletries that were so pretty!

With a room like that, needless to say, we didn’t bother going out.  Room service!

The BEST padthai in the world, seriously!

Parma ham pizza – it was very good, but not the best in the world type of good.  I had too much parma ham the whole trip. The breakfast buffet spread the next day had parma ham too and I took delight in having plenty of them with rockmelon. Nom nom nom.

What’s left of the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had. On the house somemore, what a steal!

The super good foie gras – this time round, I remembered to snap a picture halfway through it at least!

Need another getaway soon. Simin’s tempting me with Shangri-La!

pleasure.

This weekend was so good – Friday night at the Hossan Leong show, followed by sangria at Octapas and  champagne at Pump Room. Saturday night date at Daidomon and Sunday was spent at a Johnny English movie date and seafood dinner with my folks.

Oh and Adam Road nasi lemak too! Cause Rider’s was way too crowded.

I know we decided on no presents this year, but I couldn’t resist going ahead with a very brilliant present I had in mind for him. Keeping it a secret is really killing me. So much excitement and so much agony!

I’m super thankful for the boy and how he can love all my idiosyncrasies. We spent forever deciding on Daidomon – he really wanted the place but I had zero appetite. So he spent more than hour trying to suggest places that will whet my appetite, from Straits Kitchen to Boon Tong Kee to Sun with Moon. And I kept making nonsensical comments like Don’t eat out la. Another $200 on dinner, we already spent $300 last night. Later you say I spend too much of your money again. We finally ended up at his first suggestion at close to 9pm.  Oh well :/

Happy week ahead!
